MCG breaks the attendance record
A crowd of 78,113 people packed into the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the Australian rule match between Collingwood and Essendon on sunday. This is the highest attendance at a sports stadium since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Victorian state authorities on Friday raised the capacity on the attendance at the 100,000 capacity stadium to 85,000 before the traditional Anzac Day celebration. The event’s attendance was higher than the 67,200 and 66,352 crowds who came to watch the first two T20 matches between India and England. These two matches were played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in March of this year.
Anzac Day remembers the bloody battle fought by Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during World War 1. This event is an iconic day in the regional calendar with bumper crowds guaranteed at the MCG.
